Certified TRE® Provider Training

Module One:

TRE® Begins with You

Most people join the training because they want to learn about shaking and TRE®. They want to understand the method, develop new skills and explore how it might fit into the work they already do.

That is where the journey starts for most students. Additionally, for many, the Module 1 weekend is a powerful experience in itself. It is often the first time they fully explore guided, regulated TRE®, and many leave with a very different understanding of what the body is capable of.

TRE® is designed to be experienced before it is facilitated. Learning the method is only one part of becoming a Certified TRE® Provider.

Equally important is giving yourself time to establish your own regular, self practice. The months between the modules are an essential part of the training, allowing your understanding to deepen through regular experience rather than theory alone.

When students return for Module 2, they bring far more than what they learnt during the first weekend. They bring their own experience of living with the practice—its questions, its challenges and the profound changes they’ve begun to notice in themselves and their fellow students.

TRE® Provider training begins with your own lived experience.

TRE Develops the Practitioner

Some trainings teach you a new intervention.

TRE® develops the practitioner who delivers it.

Before TRE® becomes something you facilitate, it first becomes something you fully explore and experience with your own body.

The personal practice at the heart of TRE® Provider Training isn’t simply preparation for working with clients. It is an essential part of becoming a skilled and confident practitioner.

As your own practice develops, your understanding naturally deepens. You begin to recognise the subtleties of the process, develop greater confidence in what you’re observing and build the judgement that comes from lived experience rather than theory alone.

Most people begin the training because they want to support others. What many discover is that a regular TRE® practice becomes a valuable resource in its own right. It can support your professional work, but it can also support the way you respond to stress, navigate life’s challenges and continue to grow long after the training has finished.

That is why personal practice sits at the heart of the programme. It develops not only your ability to facilitate TRE®, but also the practitioner you become.

Where Science Meets Embodied Practice

TRE® is beautifully simple to experience, but there is a rich body of science that helps us understand why it can be so effective.

Throughout the training we’ll explore the neurophysiology of stress, trauma and recovery, connecting your own experience with current thinking in neuroscience and embodied practice.

Together we’ll explore topics including:

  • Neurophysiology of stress and the body’s protective responses
  • Polyvagal Theory and the defence cascade
  • Neuroplasticity and the brain’s capacity to adapt through experience
  • Central Pattern Generators and the learning spine
  • Fascia, movement and embodied awareness
  • Therapeutic presence, pacing and co-regulation
  • Safe, ethical and trauma-informed TRE facilitation

My aim isn’t simply to teach the science. It’s to help you understand how it informs your practice, strengthens your clinical judgement and gives you greater confidence in facilitating TRE® with others. Understanding the science enriches the practice. Experiencing the practice brings the science to life.

Learning Together

While TRE® is a deeply personal practice, becoming a TRE® Provider isn’t something you do in isolation.

You’ll train within a small cohort of therapists and wellbeing practitioners, creating a learning environment where experience, curiosity and thoughtful discussion are shared throughout the year.

No two TRE® experiences are ever quite the same. One of the strengths of learning in a group is the opportunity to observe how the process unfolds differently in each person and to practice teaching each other. As you co-regulate, listen to others, ask questions and reflect on your own experience, your understanding naturally broadens and deepens.

Alongside the teaching weekends, online group supervision forms an important part of the programme. Supervision isn’t simply a place to ask questions or discuss client work. It is another place where learning happens.

Listening to another student’s experience often deepens your own understanding in unexpected ways. Watching someone else facilitate, exploring different perspectives and reflecting together all contribute to the confidence and judgement that develop over time.

Many students tell me that the relationships they build during the training become one of its most valuable aspects. The learning community often continues long after the programme has finished, providing an ongoing network of support, encouragement and professional connection. Students also become part of the worldwide TRE® community.

One of the greatest teachers on the programme is the diversity of experience within the group.

“Kate’s warm and supportive presence, along with all her knowledge, intuitive guidance and experience, provide a deep and profound teaching and healing space. Something that seems very much needed at this time.  Insights Kate shared during my training come to mind and help to support my TRE process to go deeper.”

“After just one TRE shaking session, the change in me was unbelievable. It was as if I could feel the tension leaving my body – to be replaced by the most delicious sense of calm. As an intravenous injection travels all around your system – this too could be felt slowly replacing the cortisol that had been dominant for so long.

Afterwards – as well as the feeling of physical calm – I also had such clarity of thought. This was something I hadn’t had for as long as I can remember – it was as if the inner calm in my body and regulation of my nervous system had allowed my mind the peace it needed to function as it should”

Completing Module 1 of the TRE Training Programme was, quite simply, astonishing. Having lived for years and years in a high state of anxiety and stress, my nervous system was stuck in ‘I’m under attack mode’ and as such, my mind couldn’t function effectively. My life was so limited by the dissociative state that I was living in. I couldn’t make decisions, I was numb, I wasn’t living – just existing day to day. I felt hopeless and sad all the time.

After just one TRE shaking session, the change in me was unbelievable.

This was something I hadn’t had for as long as I can remember – it was as if the inner calm in my body and regulation of my nervous system had allowed my mind the peace it needed to function as it should.

The most wonderful, life-changing experience which must be felt to be believed.

“My sleep, flexibility and self-regulation are all the better for Kate’s TRE Module 1 Training.

Kate was recommended to me by a new homoeopathy client and I had heard many positives about TRE from a yoga colleague who had trained and I was interested to find out more.  After decades of frustration, my client had experienced profound changes in her eczema condition and in her nervous system after just a few TRE treatments with Kate.

I could see the potential for healing from TRE as a movement therapy that I was keen to experience for myself, and with a view that it would complement my work as a yoga teacher and neurodevelopmental therapist.

On meeting Kate she brought about hugely transformative changes for me too on an emotional and physical level.

I was especially appreciative of the new range of movement in my shoulder and hip.  I hadn’t realised the extent I was still holding in these areas from long-standing injuries over challenging times.

I have gone on to train with Kate because she has both an extensive understanding of the scientific research behind TRE and her unique way of holding a space for you, just where you’re at, whether you’re in a one to one session or a group.

Kate’s teaching is fun, informative and full of memorable presentations interspersed with deeply grounding TRE experiences.

Kate brings you back to the interconnectedness and wisdom in nature and in you. “

“I just want to say thank you, that was really awesome and different for me, I got a lot of release, thank you for offering and holding a safe space for that to happen and thank you for gently guiding that.

After shaking on my right side, I had a little pause, and it was like I just felt these feel good hormones, I had a little smile on my face, I’m not sure why, but it really did feel good.

I am really enjoying these group shakes, and I am learning a lot more about me and my body”

‘Everyone on the course reacted differently and Kate was incredibly empathetic in how she supported each person, without being intrusive.

I was worried about people watching the ‘shaking’ but everyone is so caught up in their own experience that I did not once feel self-conscious. I found it absolutely fascinating to learn about the body’s natural shaking reflex and how modern human societies have repressed this way of releasing adrenaline, leading to chronic stress held in the body. It was amazing how the body started off tentatively but then began to ‘re-learn’ how to shake.
After each shaking session, I felt so refreshed and calm.

I have been on a lifelong journey to recover from childhood trauma (CPTSD) and came across TRE whilst researching body based and neuroscience based trauma healing approaches. I have spent a lot of time in talking therapies over the years and gained essential insights, but some issues remain stubborn and hard to shift. Bessel Van Der Kolk’s book – ‘The Body Keeps the Score’ really opened my eyes to the way trauma is held in the body, so when I read about TRE I was intrigued to try it.

The refreshing thing about TRE is that you do not need to talk about your traumas – you just let your body discharge tensions as it needs to.

My next step is to develop a regular practice that I can easily fit into my life as I am convinced of the cumulative benefits of TRE, having experienced these and heard the stories of others!!‘

About Kate

Kate Munden is a Global TRE® Certification Trainer and Mentor, trauma specialist and educator with over 30 years’ experience in embodiment, nervous system regulation and practitioner development. Alongside her private practice in Kent, she also works from Harley Street, London, supporting clients through trauma-informed, body-based approaches.

As Chair of the TRE® UK Association, and having been privileged to train directly with Dr David Berceli, the creator of TRE®, Kate is committed to maintaining the highest standards of TRE® training and professional practice. Today, she teaches and mentors TRE® Providers in the UK and internationally, with a particular passion for developing practitioners who are safe, thoughtful, discerning and deeply embodied in their work.

Kate’s approach to teaching is grounded in a simple philosophy:

TRE® begins with you.

She believes that becoming a skilled TRE® Provider is about far more than learning a protocol. Through personal practice, embodied experience, modern neuroscience and thoughtful supervision, practitioners develop the confidence, presence and clinical discernment to facilitate TRE® safely and skilfully with others.

Throughout her training, Kate places a strong emphasis on the art of safe co-regulation, ethical practice and developing the discernment to know when to intervene—and when the greatest skill is simply creating the conditions for the body’s own innate capacity to regulate and restore balance.

Alongside her work in TRE®, Kate is an EFT Mentor and Advanced Accredited Practitioner, having served for six years as Executive Director of EFT International. She is also an accredited Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) Provider, an Integrated Energy Psychology Practitioner, an experienced bodyworker and a member of the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology (ACEP).

Kate works with a wide range of presentations, with particular expertise in post-traumatic stress (PTS) symptoms, the effects of narcissistic and coercive emotional abuse, chronic pain and anxiety.
