TRE Module 3 – Global Outreach

Developing the confidence, judgement and adaptability to bring TRE® safely to groups, diverse populations and the wider community.

Taking TRE® Beyond the Therapy Room

By the time you arrive at Module 3, you’ll have established your own TRE® practice, completed months of supervised facilitation and developed confidence working one-to-one with practice clients.

Now your focus expands once again. Module 3 is about taking TRE® beyond the therapy room and learning how to facilitate safely and confidently with groups, organisations and diverse communities.

This is where your personal practice, scientific understanding and practical facilitation experience come together as students learn to safely navigate more complex interpersonal group dynamics.

Returning to the Original Vision

TRE® was originally developed by Dr David Berceli to make trauma recovery accessible to large populations affected by war, disaster and chronic stress.

Rather than creating another one-to-one therapeutic model, he developed a simple, body-based approach that could be shared safely with groups. This made TRE® accessible to people who had little or no access to psychological services, as well as those living in cultures where individual therapy might not be available, practical or culturally acceptable.

That original vision remains just as relevant today. TRE® is now used in healthcare, education, humanitarian projects, workplaces, emergency services, military settings, prisons and community wellbeing programmes throughout the world.

Module 3 explores how this remarkable approach can be delivered safely in groups while remaining true to its core principles of autonomy, self-regulation and respect for the individual.

TRE Tremors

The Art of Holding a Group

Facilitating TRE® in a group requires a different set of skills from working one-to-one.

The challenge isn’t simply teaching the exercises. It’s creating the conditions in which every individual can safely have their own experience while remaining supported by the collective safety of the group.

One of the distinctive features of TRE® is that it was designed from the outset to be shared safely within groups as well as individually.

Throughout Module 3 you’ll learn how to:

  • Introduce TRE® clearly and confidently.
  • Establish safety and clear boundaries within a group setting.
  • Support the room while remaining attentive to individual needs.
  • Balance the needs of the group without losing sight of the individual.
  • Adapt your facilitation to different populations and settings.
  • Respond confidently to the natural variations that arise within group practice.

As with one-to-one facilitation, the emphasis is never on directing another person’s experience. It is on creating the conditions in which every participant can safely discover their own.

Advanced Facilitation & Clinical Discernment

By Module 3 you’ll have completed months of supervised practice, worked with a variety of clients and developed growing confidence in your facilitation.

This final module is about refining your practice through greater clinical discernment.

Discernment is the ability to recognise what is most appropriate in this moment, with this person. It isn’t about doing more. It isn’t about using every intervention you’ve learned.

It’s about understanding when an intervention may be helpful, when it may be unnecessary and when the greatest skill is simply allowing the body’s own process to unfold.

Throughout Module 3 you’ll continue developing your capacity to observe carefully, respond thoughtfully and make decisions that are guided by the person in front of you rather than by a protocol.

You’ll learn advanced facilitation skills including:

  • The safe and ethical use of touch interventions through explicit consent and continual negotiation.
  • Supporting the natural progression of the tremor response when appropriate.
  • Transference & Countertransference
  • Working with areas of holding and restriction while respecting the body’s own pace.
  • Adapting your facilitation for different individuals, groups and professional settings.
  • Refining your observational skills, pacing and professional judgement.
  • Recognising when less intervention creates more opportunity for the body’s innate intelligence to emerge.

Throughout the programme, touch is never assumed. It is always negotiated, offered respectfully and used only when it genuinely supports the client’s process. The emphasis remains on choice, autonomy and collaboration.

By this stage, facilitation becomes less about knowing what you can do and more about recognising what is most appropriate for the person in front of you.

Preparing for Professional Practice

Certification is not the end of the journey. It marks the beginning of your contribution as a Certified TRE® Provider.

Whether you choose to integrate TRE® into an existing therapeutic practice, develop specialist programmes, teach regular classes or introduce TRE® into organisations and community settings, Module 3 prepares you to share this work safely, ethically and with confidence.

You’ll also become part of an international community of Certified TRE® Providers and Trainers committed to maintaining high standards of practice while continuing to learn, develop and support one another.

From its beginnings, TRE® was designed to reach beyond the therapy room. Module 3 honours that vision by preparing you to share this work responsibly with the people and communities who may benefit from it most.

Completing the Journey

The TRE® Provider Training Programme begins with your own experience.

It continues by developing the skills of safe one-to-one facilitation through personal practice, supervised client work and the art of safe co-regulation.

Module 3 completes that journey by preparing you to extend the reach of TRE® beyond the individual, bringing this remarkable work safely into groups, organisations and communities.

By the end of the programme, you’ll have developed far more than the ability to teach a sequence of exercises.

You’ll have developed the confidence, judgement and adaptability to facilitate TRE® safely with individuals and groups, to work thoughtfully across a range of settings and populations, and to contribute to the continuing growth of TRE® within your own professional community.
