You may not need to remember what happened to you!

Tension and trauma aren’t just stored in words and memories. They are also stored in feelings and sensations, therefore, you may not need to remember what happened to you to heal from its effects.

When we learn TRE Tension & Trauma Release Exercises, we access an explorative doorway to treat the ‘unspoken parts’ of trauma.

Founder of TRE, Dr David Berceli, says:

“I am fond of saying ‘You do not need to remember or do not need to understand to heal trauma’. The goal is to feel safe right now and not get activated by the ‘tissue memories’, ‘cellular memories’ and ‘action patterns’. We can learn to be more than old protective patterns that are seeking to take over”.

TRE Trauma Release Exercises

While TRE began as a way to help those with post-traumatic stress, the practice has evolved to support self-development or meditation practice and for athletes who use it for muscular recovery after training.

The self-induced therapeutic tremoring that we access during a TRE session can counterbalance that tension and stress. Unfortunately, as its often seen as unconventional or out of control we have learned to override this natural, voluntary mechanism.

The Body’s Clues

When you develop a regular TRE practice you’ll learn how to read the body’s clues and follow the body’s movements and start to map trauma’s impact on your body. Maybe you are carrying old patterns of tension and trauma from an unhappy home life or bullying at school, or simply the stress of meeting deadline after deadline.

Body awareness and our innate inner wisdom can help us detect and ‘treat’ these old trigger patterns (that we often cannot find language for) through exploring self-induced therapeutic tremoring or ‘shaking meditation’.

Step-by-Step Strategy

TRE also gives us a step-by-step strategy that can help us to learn to tolerate difficult sensations (perhaps an ache in the pit of the stomach, aching back, racing heart) and the associated emotions without being overwhelmed and crippled by them.

Sometimes we don’t have words for what has happened to us and TRE gives us access to profound inner wisdom and the empowerment of self-healing.

Chronic Stress

Most Providers use TRE to help clients with chronic stress, ongoing anxiety and sleep dysregulation. In our modern life, particularly now, we can find ourselves in a state of chronic stress with our bodies locked in protective patterns — short, tight breathing, clenched jaws, tense muscles, stomach issues and unexplained chronic pain.

Learning TRE is often a light bulb moment for many clients as they finally find what feeling truly relaxed is like – often for the first time as their body lets go of years of chronic stress.
